Die Herner Straße ist die einzige Hauptverkehrsstraße in Bochum mit durchgehende Radwegen.
Alle anderen haben keine oder nicht durchgehende Radwege. Insofern ist die Herner Straße die fahrradfreundlichste Hauptverkehrsstraße in Bochum – aber fahrradfreundlich ist sie nicht.
Grundbedingung für die Sicherheit sind die ausreichende Breite des Radfahrstreifens und Sicherheitstrennstreifen zu den parkenden Autos im Seitenraum.
Laut Radverkehrskonzept Bochum von 2023 sollen Radfahrstreifen an Hauptverkehrsstraßen 2,50 m breit sein, aber 2,00 m wären auch ausreichend. Hier ist der Radfahrstreifen gerade noch 90 cm breit weil die Autofahrer den Trennstrich zur Fahrbahn (25 cm) durch permanentes Überfahren bereits beseitigt haben.
Auch der Sicherheitstrennstreifen ist nicht ausreichend. Er wurde kurzerhand mit einer gestrichelten Linie in den Parkstreifen verlegt. Das erkennt und beachtet kaum ein Autofahrer. Nach aktuellem Standard müsste er 75 cm breit sein und durch einen durchgehenden weißen Trennstrich vom Parkstreifen getrennt sein.
In den zuerst gebauten Abschnitten fehlen die Sicherheitstrennstreifen vollständig.
Die fahrradfreundlichste Hauptverkehrsstraße in Bochum ist also nicht verkehrssicher. Bewiesen wurde das durch einen Dooring-Unfall, bei dem ein Radfahrer durch eine plötzlich geöffnete Autotür auf die Fahrbahn geschleudert wurde und sich nur durch einen beherzten Sprung um Haaresbreite vor einem überholenden Lkw retten konnte.
Die Stadt Bochum hat aber die feste Absicht, an diesem Zustand nichts zu ändern. Sie konzentriert sich lieber auf utopische Velorouten, die auf dem Papier glänzend aussehen, aber nicht realisierbar sind.
Da, wo die Radfahrenden in Bochum heute täglich unterwegs sind, bleibt alles beim Alten.
